Edwin Ortiz y La Mafia Del Guaguanco
Edwin Ortiz y La Mafia Del GuaguancoEdwin Ortiz y La Mafia Del Guaguanco is now what was formerly Edwin Ortiz y Orquesta La Romana. After a 30+ year run as Orquesta La Romana, Edwin decided to change the name and revamp the complete repertoire. The repertoire now includes a strong sense of what the music was referred to as prior to the commercialized name of salsa. That is Guaguanco. The group, as masters of salsa music, not only play but attempt to educate the dancers to what the music use to be and sound like. This sound is a much more aggressive, raw and powerful form of salsa music. The current Mafia Del Guaguanco repertoire includes songs as old as 1966 with updated and revamped arrangements that stay true to the original concept. As Orquesta La Romana, the group was voted best Latin Orchestra for 8 straight years. They were also the go to band for any artist coming to the DMV. They have backed up Hector Tricoche, Adalberto Santiago, Frankie Vazquez, Jerry Rivera, Lalo Rodriguez, Luisito Carrion, Junior Gonzalez and Cano Estremera. They were also the Tito Puente, Jr. Orchestra from Richmond, VA through New York City playing all the music of the King of Latin Music, the one and only Tito Puente. The band has shared the stage with El Gran Combo, Tito Nieves, Frankie Ruiz, Tommy Olivencia, Los Hermanos Moreno, Oscar D’Leon, Luis Enrique, Grupo Niche, Johnny Ventura, La Sonora Poncena to mention a few..
